Philo Edu is an online television provider available to students and residents of the Ohio State Columbus campus, Mansfield Molyet Village Apartments, Newark Residence Hall and McConnell Hall. The service provides an updated approach to viewing live cable and TV programming from a variety of devices using a wired or wireless university network connection. This gives students the flexibility to view programming from most university-owned locations on the main campus. In addition, to live program viewing, students have the ability to pause and rewind live TV, and up to 20 hours of personal DVR space to record favorite programs. NOTE: Due to licensing restrictions from some content owners, some programs cannot be recorded.

I want to watch using my Roku. How do set that up for use on the network?
First, connect your Roku device to the university network. This is the same process for many devices that will connect to Ohio State’s ResNet (residential computer network):
Activations could take up to 15 minutes.
Second, you will need to set up your Roku account and register your Roku to your account at www.roku.com/link.
Once you have registered your Roku to your Roku account, you can connect your Roku account to your Philo Edu account by logging into Philo Edu on your computer (http://osu.philo.com/roku) and following the instructions on your account settings tab. Philo Edu provides email support for the Philo Edu Roku Channel but cannot provide support for the Roku device itself.
Can I record television programs?
Yes. The Philo Edu service provides some digital video recording features. You will find more information on the Philo Edu support site (support.philo.com). You can not record or play back recorded material on Roku. Special Note: due to licensing restrictions from the content owners, most station owned by Disney companies cannot be recorded. This includes ABC stations, ESPN stations, and Disney networks.

Fetch is a program that enables you to connect to a remote computer to send and retrieve files over the Internet using FTP (file transfer protocol) or Secure file transfer protocol (SFTP). This now includes improved capability with MacOS X 10.5, and allows you to upload files to servers using Copy and Paste commands. In addition, Fetch now is a Universal application and supports PPC and Intel Macs. Available to faculty, staff and students for use at main and regional campuses and on your home computer. LANDesk (current version)

LANDesk Software provides systems management, security management, service management, asset management, and process management solutions to organizations. Available to OSU faculty and staff for use on all OSU-owned machines and any machines that require management by OSU staff. OCIO Site Licensing and OCIO Security, with help from CFAES and other offices at OSU, have partnered to negotiate a three-year contract with LANDesk for departments to purchase a variety of their software from GovConnection. Pricing is based on a per-FTE basis, as calculated by Site Licensing based on departmental Microsoft FTE counts, and all departments receive the same price, regardless of size. A powerful and comprehensive interactive symbolic algebra system used for engineering and mathematical instruction and research. Available to faculty and staff for use on computers on campus or in their homes for university-related business. Available to graduate students who are employed as a teaching or research assistant/associate for use on computers on campus only for university-related business. Software must be returned when leaving OSU. This program comes in a desktop version and a server version. The server version may be used to run Maple in a LAN environment. Maple contains extensive Help after installation. This software may be requested through the Order Services link of OCIO Self Service.
NOTE: you can access the Maple Application Center. This site offers a free online resource of technical solutions submitted by Maple users from around the world. As of 2018, student and staff configurations were unified, and became the same.
Ohio State faculty, staff, and students are now licensed for all client toolboxes.
Available to faculty and academic staff for teaching and research on OSU owned or controlled computers and campus computer labs. It is also available to faculty, academic staff and students for use on personally owned computers. Student use is limited to use in meeting classroom requirements and courses of study offered by OSU. Commercial use is prohibited. Additional toolboxes may be ordered. Please contact Bryan Zocco of The Mathworks at (508)647-7274, ([email protected]) to inquire about quotations and orders for additional toolboxes. In this case The Mathworks will generate any additional license codes for add-on toolboxes (Child Licenses) for you to combine during installation with your Standard Configuration license codes. Purchase Options: Parallels is available through Tech Hub ($40) for personal versions, or through CDWG in eStores for business ($63) or enterprise ($99) versions. VMware Fusion is available on contract through OARnet ($48).
Parallels Desktop for Mac has been discontinued as a site license provided by OCIO. OSU Purchasing recommends obtaining copies of this software either through Tech Hub, CDWG, or purchasing VMware Fusion through OARnet.
ReadSpeaker Enterprise:
Supported Versions: Web-based; current version provided by company.
Eligibilty: Faculty and Staff for use on OSU webpages on Main and Regional campuses.

Provides end users a link on a web page that when clicked reads the contents of the page, with optional highlighting of text during reading. Users can also download an MP3 of the page. The web developer chooses the region of the page to be read and implements by including a 'Listen' link and some JavaScript. Available for use on osu.edu and ohio-state.edu domains and sub-domains only, and only on HTTP pages (not HTTPS). 'Listen' links will work in all modern browsers that support Flash and JavaScript. Browsers that do not support Flash will not be able to play back pages with the highlighting effect; however, clicking the 'Listen' link in these browsers will display a link to download an MP3 of the page. Instructions for use of this software are available on the Web Accessibility Center's site.

RefWorks is a Web-based bibliography and database manager that allows users to create their own personal database by importing references from text files or online databases. They can use these references in writing their papers and automatically format the paper and the bibliography. RefWorks is a web-based application and hence is available to users on Windows, Macintosh and Unix, etc. No downloading or installation is needed since you use your web browser to access this application from a server. Write-n-Cite is a feature which allows you to access your references in RefWorks while working within Microsoft Word. RefWorks has been acquired through the efforts of The Ohio State University Libraries in conjunction with other OhioLink member schools. OIT site licensing provides some cost sharing in support of this campuswide license. This application is available to faculty, staff and students on the main and regional campuses. SciFinder Scholar (current version):

SciFinder is a web-based application which accesses a server at Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) in Columbus, Ohio. The application provides easy, natural language searching of the 'Chemical Abstracts' database by subject, author and chemical substance. Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition (current version)
Eligibility: Home use by faculty, staff, and students. No use on OSU-owned machines.
System Requirements:
Sophos provides a free antivirus program for Macintosh computers, and is recommended by the OCIO Security Team for home users. OSU has not purchased an enterprise license, so this version may not be installed on OSU-owned or managed machines. For OSU-owned or managed machines, please see our System Center Endpoint Protection link. You may download the software from the Sophos website.

STATA is an environment for manipulating and analyzing data using statistical and graphical methods. It is an integrated package, not a collection of separate modules. This is available as part of the StataCorp Grad Plan, originally administered by the Statistics dept. OCIO is now facilitating distribution at their request. Available to faculty, staff, and students on main and regional campuses and on home computers. If you purchase with your own funds you own the software license. Licenses purchased with OSU funds remain with OSU. To purchase, call 800-782-8272.
The software is ordered either as a download from STATA or as media shipped directly to you. It is no longer picked up at the Buckeye Bar on campus (this is due to a distribution change by STATA).

System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP, formerly Forefront) is an anit-virus, anti-malware product designed to protect your Mac and keep it safe. This version of SCEP will integrate with SCCM SP1 for management of Mac systems. This software is available to Faculty and Staff on OSU's main and regional campuses on OSU-owned and -managed machines at no charge as part of our Microsoft Campus Agreement. Home users should use the Sophos product listed above. This software may be requested through the Order Services link of OCIO Self Service.
TN3270 X (version 3.2.4):

TN3270 allows a Macintosh computer with a TCP/IP network connection to negotiate a telnet session emulating an IBM 3270 terminal. Features of this release include support for Kerberos 4 and Kerberos 5 authentication and encryption and support for negotiated SSL using the telnet Start TLS option. It is available to all faculty, staff and students. OCIO has obtained permission from the author at Brown University to distribute this software to OSU. TurningPoint is software that OSU instructors and staff can use to add interactive polling/quizzing slides to a PowerPoint presentation. They can make a request to have OIT Classroom Services install the software in a Classroom Pool room's lectern computer by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. Please specify that you want the antenna installed on the Mac computer if you are creating the slides with 'TurningPoint for Mac'. You can not do polling on the Windows version of TurningPoint with slides created with the Mac version and vice versa. This software is available from Turning Technologies.

A Digital Music Repository software package offered by the Ohio State University Music and Dance Library. It is a tool to assist instructors in demonstrating musical concepts by annotating musical scores and audio files and sharing them with students. It allows students to study these compositions outside of the classroom at most web-enabled personal computers. This is all done while unobtrusively enforcing the rights of the works' copyright holders based on the students' course enrollment.Available to faculty, staff, and students.
